Scheme Overview

WHAT THE SCHEME IS

The Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme was announced on 7 May 2022 and launched on
15 September 2022 at Madurai. Breakfast is provided to primary school children
from Class 1 to Class 5 studying in Government schools, on all school working
days.

The menu rotates — upma, kitchadi, pongal and sweet varieties — and the
department sets it to deliver about 293.40 kcal of energy and 9.85 g of protein
per child per day, along with the necessary minerals.

The department records that attendance in Government schools rose by an average
of 30 per cent after the scheme began.

REPORTED, BUT NOT YET ON THE DEPARTMENT'S PAGE

News reports in 2026 say the scheme has been renamed the Perunthalaivar
Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme and is being extended to Classes VI to VIII from
17 September 2026. The department's own page — last updated 8 August 2026 —
still carries the original name and the Class 1 to 5 coverage, so TN JOBS is
reporting both and will update this page when the department does.

This page is not an application form, and TN JOBS does not collect applications
for any scheme.

Eligibility

- Children studying in Classes 1 to 5 in Government schools in Tamil Nadu.
- No income condition, no caste condition, no registration.

How to Apply

There is no application and no form. A child studying in Class 1 to 5 in a
Government school is served breakfast at the school itself.

If breakfast is not being served at your child's school, raise it with the head
teacher or the Block Education Office — not with any agent.

WARNINGS
- The government charges no fee for this scheme. Do not pay any agent or
  middleman, and do not pay anyone who offers to "get it sanctioned" for you.
- No official will ask you for your OTP, ATM PIN or bank password.
- Do not enter your details on links forwarded through WhatsApp or Telegram.
  Check that the address ends in .gov.in before typing anything.
- TN JOBS does not accept applications for this or any other scheme, and will
  never ask you for money or documents.

Documents Required

None. No document is required from the family for this scheme.
